Paul Molina, Gila River Indian Community, District 7 (Pee Posh - Maricopa Colony)
I am Akimal O'otham, Pee Posh, Quechan, Pawnee, and Hispanic from the Gila River Indian Community located in Southern Arizona. I was raised in the Maricopa Colony (District 7) of the Gila River Indian Community and attended boarding school at Sherman Indian High School in Riverside, CA.
I studied graphic design and visual communications at Collins College in Tempe. I am a self-taught artist with experience in a wide range of mediums: pencil, pen, watercolor, acrylic paint, aerosol paint, mixed media, etc. As a freelance illustrator and graphic designer, I enjoy creating content that represents people and cultures, that is visually moving and that evokes positive emotion.
My artwork comes primarily from my Native American heritage. Taking the Pima and the Maricopa tribes of the southwest and intertwining the two to tell my story from both sides of the fence and also expressing this hybrid in my artwork.
As an indigenous artist, I feel compelled to visually tell the story of my people from the Huhugam (those before us) and how they thrived off the land and rivers that once flourished throughout the valley of the Pima and Salt Rivers.
